We're friendly, we're welcoming, and we'd love to see you at one of our classes. At Dance Movers, we don't take ourselves too seriously - we're everyday folk getting and staying fit in a fun way. Come and see for yourself!
-
Absolutely not! We focus on having fun and moving your body, not on perfect technique. Whether you haven't danced since your wedding or have never danced at all, you'll feel comfortable from your very first class. The routines repeat throughout each track, so even if you miss a step, you'll get another chance. We laugh a lot, we don't take ourselves seriously, and the atmosphere is always welcoming.
-
You don't need to be fit at all - that's what we're here to help with! All three of our class types (Cha Cha Movers, Majestic Movers, and Seated Movers) are designed for different fitness levels and ages. If you need to take a breather, that's completely fine. Just put into the routines what you can and get your body moving!
-
Yes! Your first class is completely FREE - we call it a 'Free Taster'. This gives you the chance to experience Dance Movers with no financial commitment. You'll get the full class experience, meet the instructor and other members, and see if dance fitness is right for you. We're confident you'll love it, but there's absolutely no pressure to continue if it's not for you.

· Cha Cha Movers - Evening classes open to any age and ability level. High energy, aerobic workout based on Ballroom and Latin dances. Perfect if you want a fun cardio session with upbeat music.
· Majestic Movers - Morning classes specifically for adults aged 55+. A low impact dance fitness class, we don’t do any jumps or spins in this class. It is a balanced workout incorporating mostly dance with a short stretch & strength section. Ideal if you want to stay active, improve balance, and meet others in your age group.
· Seated Movers - For adults aged 65+/75+ or anyone with limited mobility. All exercises done seated. Perfect if you have balance concerns, are recovering from injury, or simply prefer a seated workout.
-
All our classes follow a similar structure:
1. Warm-up (5) - Warming up the body with movement and stretches to prepare your body
2. Dance section - 40 minutes for Majestic Movers & Seated Movers and 50 minutes for Cha Cha Movers - We Cha Cha, Samba, Salsa, Tango and lots more, to fantastic music from various genres.
3. Cool-down and stretch 5 minutes for Cha Cha Movers and 10 minutes for Majestic Movers & Seated Movers- Cool the body down and give the muscles a stretch. In the Majestic Movers we work on core strength as this is so important to stay strong as we age and prevent falls.
4. Social time in our Majestic and Seated Movers classes - Time for a chat and cup of tea in the last 10 minutes of class.
What to Wear and Bring
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely:
· Leggings, tracksuit bottoms, or loose-fitting trousers
· T-shirt, vest top, or comfortable top (layers are good as you'll warm up)
· Supportive trainers or fitness shoes (not running shoes with too much grip)
· Avoid jeans or restrictive clothing
You don't need special dance gear or expensive workout clothes - just wear what makes you comfortable.
-
Just three things:
1. Water bottle - You'll be moving for an hour, so stay hydrated
2. Yourself - That's genuinely all you need!
3. Positive attitude - Ready to have fun and maybe laugh at yourself
For Seated Movers classes, chairs are provided by the venue.
-
Dance shoes are not essential, however, if you find you like the classes then we do recommend Dance Sneakers as they are lightweight, supportive and have a spinning spot which makes the turns and twists easy, protecting your body. To start with you can wear trainers but try and avoid trainers with a lot of grip as they prevent some movement.

Pricing and Booking
-
We offer flexible pricing to suit different needs:
· First class: FREE - Your taster session costs nothing
· Block booking: £6.50 per class - Best value when you book a full term (6-8 weeks)
· Pay as you go: £8.00 per class - Perfect if you can't commit to every week
Our terms usually run alongside school terms.
-
Yes! If you can't make your regular class one week, you're welcome to attend any other Dance Movers class in that same term. This flexibility is included in your block booking price, so you still benefit from the £6.50 rate. For example, if you usually attend Monday evening in Tarporley but can't make it, you could go to Tuesday evening in Helsby instead.
-
Absolutely! Many of our members attend multiple class types. You might enjoy the high energy of Cha Cha Movers one evening and the more relaxed pace of Majestic Movers another morning. The variety keeps your fitness routine interesting.
-
With block booking, you can make up missed classes by attending a different session in the same term (as mentioned above). If you're paying as you go, you simply pay for the classes you attend. Life happens, and we understand that - there's no penalty for missing a session.
-
We recommend contacting us before attending your first class so we can expect you and make you feel welcome. For regular weekly classes, booking ahead helps us manage numbers for venue capacity. Get in touch via email (hazeldancemovers@gmail.com or nikkidancemovers@gmail.com) or phone (07766 425626 / 07442 256861).
Health and Safety
-
Yes, many of our members have various health conditions, and our instructors are experienced in offering modifications. We specifically created Seated Movers for people with limited mobility, balance concerns, or who simply feel more comfortable exercising while seated. For all classes, please let your instructor know about any health conditions or injuries at your first session - they'll make sure you can participate safely and comfortably. As always, if you have concerns, check with your GP before starting any new exercise programme.
-
You won't be alone! Every class has people at different fitness levels and abilities. Our instructors remind everyone to work at their own pace, and there's absolutely no judgment if you need to slow down or take a break. In fact, part of the Dance Movers spirit is supporting each other - you'll find everyone is too focused on having fun to worry about what anyone else is doing.
-
Don't worry - nobody remembers everything in their first few classes! The routines repeat throughout each song, giving you multiple chances to pick up the moves. Our instructors demonstrate continuously, so you can always watch and follow along. By your third or fourth class, you'll notice the steps becoming much more familiar. The most important thing is to keep moving and enjoy the music.
-
You might feel a bit of muscle soreness the next day, especially if you haven't exercised in a while - this is completely normal and shows your muscles are working! A warm bath, gentle stretching, and staying hydrated help. The good news is that this reduces significantly as your body adapts - usually by your second or third class.
-
Dance fitness can actually be beneficial for arthritis as it helps maintain joint mobility and flexibility. The key is working within your comfort zone. Our classes, particularly Majestic Movers and Seated Movers, incorporate movements that keep joints mobile without overstraining them. Many of our members with arthritis find regular dancing helps reduce stiffness. Always inform your instructor about any joint concerns so they can suggest appropriate modifications.
About Our Instructors
Getting Started
-
Hazel and Nikki both grew up in the world of dance experiencing different genres. Hazel and Nikki have been running Dance Movers for a few years now.
Hazel grew up in a dancing family, her Granny started a Ballroom, Latin & Sequence dance school which her Mum still runs to this day. Both Hazel’s Granny and Mum judged in the dance Mecca, Blackpool! Hazel was dancing from a young age and this passion has stayed with her. Hazel loves sharing her joy for Ballroom & Latin dancing with Dance Movers members.
Nikki has a ballet background and studied various dance forms. Nikki has practiced Yoga since an early age and she likes to incorporate her yoga training into the 'Stretch & Strengthen' sections of Majestic and Seated Movers classes.
Both instructors share a genuine passion for making exercise fun and accessible, and they've specifically designed Dance Movers to be non-intimidating - we're not "gym bunnies", we're everyday people who want to get fit whilst having a laugh!
-
Both Hazel and Nikki have years of experience teaching dance fitness classes across Cheshire. Their approach combines expertise with warmth and humour, making every class enjoyable.
Social Aspects
-
Many of our members say the social side is one of their favourite aspects! Dance Movers attracts friendly, down-to-earth people who support each other. You'll naturally chat with the same people week after week, and friendships form organically. Our Majestic and Seated Movers classes include a short social break with tea and biscuits, giving you time to get to know people. Even in the faster-paced Cha Cha Movers, there's chat before and after class.
-
No! All our dances are performed solo - you don't need a partner, and you won't be paired up. The focus is on individual movement and fitness, not partner dancing. This makes it perfect for anyone coming on their own.
-
Whilst the majority of our members are women, we warmly welcome men to all classes. Dance fitness is for everyone, and we'd love to see more men discover how enjoyable and beneficial it is!
-
Not at all. There's no pressure to be the centre of attention or perform individually. You'll be in a group setting where everyone is focused on following the instructor and enjoying the music. Our instructors create a supportive, judgment-free atmosphere where everyone can be themselves. Many of our members describe themselves as shy and have found Dance Movers to be a gentle, comfortable environment.

Benefits and Results
-
Dance fitness classes typically burn between 200-400 calories per hour, depending on how much energy you put in and your individual metabolism. However, we focus more on how you feel than specific calorie counts. Regular members report feeling more energetic, stronger, more flexible, and happier - those are the measures that really matter!
-
Most people notice benefits within the first few weeks:
· After 2-3 classes: Better mood, improved sleep, feeling more energetic
· After 4-6 weeks: Improved stamina, fewer aches and pains, better balance
· After 8-12 weeks: Noticeable improvements in strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness
One of our Seated Movers members, Wendy, reported after 3 terms: "I am really noticing an improvement in my core strength, now being able to raise both my feet and legs from the floor." Everyone's journey is different, but consistency is key.
-
Yes! Dance is one of the best activities for improving balance, particularly for older adults. Research shows that dance requires constant adjustment of your base of support with each step and turn, which trains both your brain and body to maintain better balance. This carries over to everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, and preventing trips. Our Majestic and Seated Movers classes specifically incorporate movements that enhance balance and coordination.
-
Dance fitness can definitely support weight loss when combined with a balanced diet. Regular dancing increases your cardiovascular fitness and burns calories. However, we focus primarily on how exercise makes you feel - many of our members find that when they enjoy their workout (like they do at Dance Movers), they're more consistent with attendance, and that consistency leads to results. Plus, the social connections and improved mental wellbeing support healthier choices overall.
-
Dancing releases endorphins (your body's natural "feel-good" hormones), which boost mood and reduce stress. The combination of physical movement, uplifting music, and social connection is particularly powerful. Many of our members say Dance Movers is their weekly highlight - it gets them out of the house, gives them something to look forward to, and helps combat feelings of isolation. The mental benefits are often just as important as the physical ones.
-
Absolutely! Dance is excellent for cognitive function because it combines physical movement with memorising routines and coordinating different body parts - this keeps your brain active and challenged. Research has shown that dance can help maintain memory and may even help reduce the risk of dementia in older adults. Learning new routines week after week keeps your mind sharp.
Specific Questions for Over 55s / Seated Classes
-
Either would work for you! Cha Cha Movers is higher energy and faster-paced with continuous movement - it's pure cardio dance. Majestic Movers has dance but also incorporates stretching and strengthening sections inspired by yoga, offering a more rounded workout. Many fit over-55s choose Majestic Movers because they appreciate the balanced approach and the morning timing works well. Why not try one with a free taster and go from there?
-
Majestic Movers (55+) is a standing class where you move around the room dancing, with a section for stretching and strengthening. It's designed for active adults who want to maintain fitness and have fun.
Seated Movers (65+/75+ or limited mobility) is done entirely seated. It’s perfect for people with balance concerns, joint issues, or who simply feel more comfortable exercising whilst seated. The moves are adapted but still give you a great workout focusing on mobility, strength, and coordination.
-
If you feel Seated Movers would be more suitable for you due to mobility concerns or preference for seated exercise, you're absolutely welcome! The age guidelines are just that - guidelines. We're happy to accommodate anyone who feels a particular class style suits their needs best.
-
Yes! Don't underestimate seated exercise - it can be surprisingly challenging and effective. You'll work your upper body, core, and even your legs through various movements. One of our members, Wendy, said after three terms: "I'm now in my 3rd term of Seated Movers and I am really noticing an improvement in my core strength." Seated exercise is proven to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular health whilst being gentle on joints.
